May was a busy month for our team, seeing us out and about at two of Shropshire’s biggest events of the year . . . held over one weekend!
We just love getting involved in local community events, and they don’t come much bigger, or better, than the Shropshire County Show and Shrewsbury Krazy Races, which this year were held on May 25th and 26th, respectively.
Dining out
Shropshire County Show, at the DMOS People West Mid Showground, attracts thousands of visitors and is a great day out with its range of agricultural exhibitors, main ring entertainment and hundreds of trade stands – including our own, which featured a radio-controlled car race course (featuring office furniture and stationery obstacles of course!).
We were delighted to sponsor the members section of the show and Partners Richard and Craig enjoyed lunch with the show president – Anna Turner, the Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire.
Anna was born in Shropshire, appointed Lord Lieutenant in 2019 and continues to play an inspirational role in the community alongside her involvement in the family business. She has also served as a magistrate for more than 25 years. It was a wonderful day, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
There was plenty to see at the show—indeed, it was difficult to get around everything during the day. Once again, it was a tremendous success, and the large attendance emphasises just how important the event continues to be to our community here in Shropshire.
Going Krazy
The following day, we took part in Shrewsbury Krazy Races in The Quarry, and despite the event being threatened by thunderstorms, it was great to see so many people turning out to support it.
We are regular competitors at Krazy Races, and five staff members formed two teams for 2024! We were so pleased that the day went well, that the many spectators seemed to enjoy the event, and that we fared very well in the races—our two karts, ‘Team 1974’ and ‘Chrisbeon 50’, raced into 2nd and 3rd place overall!
Krazy Races sees teams battle it out in their zany go-kart soapboxes to be the best and help raise cash for charity along the way. Competitors in Shrewsbury had to negotiate a 200m track, which included a hill, chicanes and other obstacles in an attempt to be named the Best Dressed Team, have the Best Designed Kart, or the Fastest Kart.
Krazy Races has become the UK’s largest soapbox derby experience. Its three-event programme in 2023, which involved 250 teams and 150,000 spectators, raised more than £100,000 for charity!
