How green is your office?

No, we don’t mean sustainable practices….we are talking about office trends and biophilic design…

What is Biophilic Design?

Biophilic Design is a prominent trend in workplaces that sees offices across the UK, and beyond, bringing nature indoors – integrating natural plant life into workplace layouts.

Studies have shown that this approach can boost employee productivity by 6%, enhance creativity by 15% and improve overall wellbeing by 40%!

High maintenance

For many, the thought of bringing plants into the office and having to maintain them may seem like a drain on time and an unnecessary distraction in the office setting. However, small succulents and hard-wearing plants that need little maintenance are often chosen.

For employees, these plants enhance the visual appeal of the workplace, contribute to better air quality, and, according to research, decrease illness-related absences.

Coffee Shop culture

Another area of the office that has seen a lot of change is the breakout areas, receptions, and meeting rooms. The coffee shop workplace trend has seen more coffee machines, vibrant decor and barista-style bars created in these spaces.

As well as looking for new ranges of furniture to meet the coffee-shop style and provide an informal and relaxed atmosphere, businesses are also looking at the cups they offer visitors and ensuring good signage and lighting.

Retro Design trend

Many offices are moving towards a retro-vintage style for offices – and using preloved office products is one of the ways businesses can achieve the desired look, as well as promote sustainability.

Colours are also highly featured here, with customers looking for soft pastels, yellows, and peaches and opting for softer, natural textures.

Resimercial Design trend

We have seen many trends in the office furniture industry over the past few years with resimercial design also becoming very popular.

Resimercial describes a mix of residential and commercial – mixing residential design elements into commercial spaces…

Think plants, sofas, artwork, ambient lighting.

Resimercial is not a new term and has been on the increase since 2018 – with a huge jump following the events of 2020/2021, and as it continues to gain momentum offices across the UK are recognising the potential benefits.

Employee wellbeing

In a world where employee wellbeing has become the number one priority for many businesses and organisations, resimercial is a common way to improve comfort and reduce stress, as well as increase productivity.
