Are you working from home?

Traditional office-based work now represents just over 30% of the workforce in UK businesses….

A shift towards remote and hybrid working

Forbes has collated statistics on UK remote and hybrid working which details that in 2024, the UK workforce shows a significant shift towards remote and hybrid working models.

Around 37% of employees work fully remotely, while 30% operate in a hybrid mode, splitting their time between home and the office. Traditional office-based work now represents just 33% of the workforce – a trend that highlights a growing preference for flexibility, driven by technological advancements and changing employee expectations.

Duties as an employer

We put together a blog on your duties as an employer for staff working from home or hybrid, which looked at how staff working from home or in hybrid setups must ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, particularly under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Employers are required to conduct risk assessments, especially focusing on Display Screen Equipment (DSE) to mitigate risks related to improper posture and equipment use. They must also assist in adapting home workstations if hazards are identified. While providing equipment isn’t always mandatory, it becomes necessary if health and safety are compromised.

Home office design

But as well as employer duties, home and hybrid working opens up a huge range of office design – from fitting all that you need into a small space, to making it attractive, and ensuring it meets all of your needs.

We have completed a number of home offices that meet different needs.

The home office below was designed for a family with several requirements – three desk spaces were needed in a small room, and lots of storage was required due to a large amount of filing and paperwork, and power points were needed at each workspace.

The set-up below was designed for a very small area of space. The client did not think it would be feasible to create office furniture in the small area and be able to have the storage they required – but we were able to design this for her.

This office was for a business customer with a limited first-floor area for a workspace, so a design that is also popular in home offices was used.

This setup comes with various colour options, and we have the white and orange versions on display in the showroom.

There are so many options for home office space, and the team here at Chrisbeon are happy to discuss your needs. You can email us at sales@chrisbeon.co.uk or pop into our showroom on Stafford Park 4.
